11 divisions in the Department of
Medicine within the School of Medicine
at the University. It is the most
diverse in terms of activities including
patient care, teaching, research, and
administration. The University of
Pittsburgh has made a long-term
commitment to developing a strong
Division of General Internal Medicine.
This commitment spans excellence in
primary care practice at the UPMC Health
System, teaching primary care and
general internal medicine, and
supporting research in nontraditional
areas such as outcomes, quality, and
cost-effectiveness. In return, the
Division has contributed greatly to the
mission of the School and has provided
the balance of teaching primary care and
research within a highly successful and
excellent tertiary care center.

The Department of General Internal Medicine publishes a newsletter
quarterly that reflects the accomplishments of the division, its Centers, Institutes,
and Sections. All of the newsletters are archived.
The Division of General Internal Medicine is located in the Montefiore University Hospital (MUH) in the Oakland section of the city of Pittsburgh.
The clinical and administrative offices are located on the 9th floor of
Montefiore University Hospital (MUH). From the main entrance of the hospital on the 7th floor, take the elevators in front of the Gift Shop to the 9th floor. When exiting the elevators, turn right towards 9-South. The Division of General Internal Medicine offices are located on 9-West.
